DEATH DOULA SERVICES

I had no idea how important helping people die would be to me until I experienced two situations within a year, where I just happened to be on the scene when someone was dying.

The first, was a man in Minneapolis who was on the 3rd story balcony of his nursing home, with a will to die. I was walking down a street I had never walked down, but something called me to take a different way to the coffee shop I frequented. A movement caught my eye, and as I looked up, I saw a man who looked exactly like my recently deceased grandfather.

As I looked up at the man, my first thought was "He's going to jump," But then, my rational mind stopped me from yelling, "Don't jump!" because I thought I would seem foolish if I was wrong. After all, he was just looking down at the sidewalk below.

Within moments, he had turned around, placed his butt on the railing and was looking down at the sidewalk below. I ran across the street, dodging traffic as I attempted a yell, but he was already leaning back. His weight caused his back to lower, while his knees and hands remained around the railing. With grace and ease, he lifted his knees over his head like a trapeze artist, and let go, one hand holding tight for a moment, before the weight of his body jerked his fingers free. He fell to the ground at my feet.

I was the first one to reach him of course, because he landed just feet in front of me. Blood was already beginning to foam from his mouth, and his arm was twisted up behind his back.

I was guided to speak to him, and as others gathered around, screaming and panicking, I remained calm as I let the words flow through me. The onlookers faded away in a circle, like they were standing around a fire, faces with unseen expressions watched..."Look into my eyes and listen to my voice, I'm going to take you there..."

The people faded away like ghosts as we were surrounded in a foggy light. The words came to me, through me...and in moments a smile crept across his lips and he faded away. It was peaceful and beautiful. I could vaguely hear people yelling "what are you doing?!" ..."Someone call 911!" "Mr.____(?) fell out of his wheelchair!" (etc.) but it was too late for that, he was just moments from his certain death and only needed comfort and guidance at that time. He was certainly determined to die.

Another time, within the same year, I was riding my bike down Nicholet Mall in Minneapolis, next to a beautiful woman. She and I rode and stopped together, in tandem. The farmer's market was going on, and I remembered I needed a loaf of bread. I was about to slow down, and I heard a loud rushing sound come up behind me. I was picked up, while still on my bike, and lifted somehow onto the curb just a moment before a large city bus roared past me. (Let me tell you, I am no curb-jumper.)

For a second, I almost thought it was that great force of wind created by the bus that picked me up off the curb, but moments later, I realized that I would have been run over too, just like that young woman was, if I had remained in the road.

I saw her on the ground, ahead of me, with her bike wheel still spinning and blood pouring from every orafice. The bus ahead of her had stopped, but the driver hadn't even gotten out yet. I was the first one to reach her, and when I did, the same white light surrounded us, and the words came through me to help her go. She too died with a peaceful smile on her face, in my arms. I have never seen such a beautiful smile, and I knew she was experiencing something magnificent.

People might think it's un-natural to find peace in helping others cross over, but it's one of the most important jobs on the planet. We have birth doulas, but leaving this earthly realm is often a one-person job. It can be frightening and lonely.

I seek to help the dying first in healing, if that is what they want. If it's too late for them to live and they are facing certain death, then my assistance comes in the form of spiritual help in creating the exit path.

I don't change diapers or clean or cook for others. My services are for the spirit and not so much for the body. I will help the client tie up loose ends, forgive others, come to terms with their fears about dying. I seek to facilitate spiritual healing, so the transition can be as easy and as emotionally painless as possible.

For hospital and home visits that are far for me to travel to, a trip charge may apply. If I have sponsorship money from contributions, I will apply this money to help those in need who don't have the financial ability to pay my session or trip fee.

My rates are as low as you will likely find, at $63 for a remote or phone session and $20 more for an office or home visit session. Additional rates may apply for drives over 60 miles from Spring Green. I hope to maintain my low rates while our country is in an economic down-turn because people need this help now more than ever.

Sign up for your session today or buy one for a friend in need: Please feel free to call or email me with questions or concerns: 608-739-4800
