Did you see it?
THE
HOLIDAY TRAIN AND FLOWER SHOW AT OLBRICH GARDENS
Don't worry if you missed the show, I've been invited back for my third year. This year, I plan to make some faerie-based replicas of famous human structures, like the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal and some other surprises.

Last year, I created the Faerie Capitol building, Monona Terrace, and several whimsical castles, ships, and other imaginative buildings for the Olbrich Gardens Holiday Train Show.

Monona Terrace was a challenge for me to build because I really didn't want to create something that Frank Lloyd Wright would disapprove of. My family was closely associated with him, and my grandfather and great frandfather were apprentices of his, so I really wasn't excited about the task. In the end, I don't feel bad about it because as I look at it, I think more of Madison than of the Monona Terrace building. I used a bucket, which was shortened for the main part, then coffee canisters and oatmeal containers for the round parts. I wrapped them in birch bark siding and used plaster from my old gutted farmhouse. The parking ramp and base was made with styrofoam. Everything was made from recycled materials and then covered with natural materials. That, at least is something I think Mr. Wright would approve of.

The faerie palace above was also made from recyled parts. The base was a plastic toy castle, which I modified with a tiki torch, a light fixture cover and plaster chips. The gardens are landscaped with moss, rocks and dried flowers provided mostly by Olbrich Gardens.

Was great fun. For the second year in a row, I had a Faerie Factory booth where kids could enjoy the large faerie installation and stop by to make their favoriet faerie accessories.
We made bubblewand necklaces, faerie tiaras and flower barettes. Spectators had a chance to see the Faerie Capitol Building and the faerie version of Monona Terrace in person.
Look for me this summer where I will be doing more BLACKLIGHT LIVEART PAINTING
The LIVE ART blacklight painting at various festivals last summer was a lot of fun and generated quite a buzz. This is just one small part of the painting. I collaborated with Art Guy (Chuck Hughes of See Hues Arts).

Harvest Fest LIVE ART Painting 2007
Our friend and associate Eric played music for inspiration while we painted into the early morning hours. Hundreds of people stopped by to see the progress as the painting transformed through the night.

Chuck painted the clouds on the left. My part of the painting goes from the red and yellow dots above the clouds all the way to the right. You can see the differences in our styles, but we still work very well together. This painting won the blacklight artist of the month contest by Wildfire, which is where we get our UV reactive paints.
